In maths we have been exploring greater than, less then and equal to. We have been doing this with objects and with numbers.
We all had a go at applying our knowledge afterwards.
Some of us used objects, some numbers, and some a combination of both!
The children who felt more confident used larger numbers and explored with different ways of showing their working.

Useful information for Year 2.

Hi Year 2,
Here is some useful information for parents/carers now that the class have settled into school and understand our timetable.

Reading books:
Reading books are swapped on a Tuesday.
Each child will have a reading record, a phonics book that is fully decodable to them and a library book they have chosen to read for pleasure.

The phonics books are swapped every Tuesday and can be swapped on a Thursday too if needed. This book should be read out loud to an adult at least three times before it is swapped. Please remember to ask your child questions about what they have read to check their understanding.

Library books are also swapped on a Tuesday (and Thursday if they want)

Please can the reading records be brought back to school every day.

Homework:

Homework is sent home on a Wednesday and needs to be returned the following Monday.

P.E.

P.E. is on Monday and Wednesdays. Please bring a P.E. kit and ensure that earrings are removed.
Some children also do football or sports on a Friday for University.

Representing numbers

We have been learning about tens and ones in our maths lessons.

To help us understand we have been using practical apparatus to show us place value. We have used dienes, bead strings and natural resources to represent numbers.

“Can you show me 23?”

“I’ve got two tens and three ones.”

“Can you show me 33?”

“I know I’ve got 33 because I’ve got 1,2,3 tens so that’s thirty. And then 3 ones!”

“Can you show me 11?”

“My stick means 10, and my leaf means 1. So I’ve got 1 ten and 1 one, and that’s 11.”
