Inside the villains….

Take a peek at our new book!

In Year 2 we are starting a character description.

We started by discussing HOW a wolf moves. We came up with lots of verbs like  creep, run and hide. We also learned some new words like lurk, stalk and prowl. We watched videos and acted them out so everyone understood.

Then we worked in groups to write sentences using our verb cards.

Have a listen to some of the sentences we came up with in our group.

Year 2 did a super job! Tomorrow we will independently write out our sentences about how the wolf moves.

Our Great Fire of London books!

To finish off our topic on The Great Fire of London we all made our own books that explain how it happened, how we know and what has changed with fire safety since then. Some of us even added a quiz!

We have spent all week on them and today we got to enjoy the finished product.

We shared our books with our friends, had a go at some of the quizzes and then told each other one thing we really liked about each other’s work.

“I like the pictures in Phoenix’s book because she used loads of bright colours.” Harry

“I like everything about Annalise’s book!” Jake

“I like that Seth’s book has the answers to the quiz on the back.” Albert

“I really like Jessica’s front cover.” Elysie

“I like that Harry put a fun fact about Samuel Pepys burying his wine and cheese.” Ella

It is important in our class to celebrate and compliment each other’s hard work. Well done, Year 2!

Word of the week…

We have recently introduced a ‘word of the week’ to our classroom. This is to expose the children to new and aspirational vocabulary.

Every Monday someone from our class chooses a mystery word out of the bag. We read it and discuss the definition. We then think of synonyms and use the word in a sentence.

A dojo is awarded to anyone that finds our word of the week in a book or can apply it to their writing.
Here are some of our sentences using the word ‘magnificent’.
“She looked magnificent in her new dress.” Norah
“The castle was magnificent.” Lily
“That painting is magnificent!” Hudson

Controlling the ball..

We have been working on our throwing and catching skills in P.E.   Today we attempted bouncing balls with control while moving.
We started by bouncing the ball to each other and then we progressed to travelling across the hall (while bouncing the ball) to reach our partner.
Some children swapped to non dominant hands, moved faster and weaved around spots on the floor as an extra challenge.
Here are some action shots!

Friday Bingo!

On a Friday we consolidate all our current high frequency words with a game of bingo! (These are words that come up ALL the time in our reading but we cannot always use our phonics knowledge to decode them, so we must learn them by sight)

Whoever wins the first round of bingo becomes the bingo caller. Everyone really enjoys this session and it is great to see which children are confident with the words.

Here is a list of the words so you can practise at home too!
