Spellings
Here are this weeks spellings.
Enterprise day!
Today Y2 and Y3 were lucky enough to have an Enterprise Day with Paul from the Enterprise Challenge.
They had to design and create their own bubble bath or body wash product. This involved designing a logo, creating a mascot and coming up with a creative name. After designing the product they had to present the product to the judges (and the rest of the classes!)
Here are the 3 finalists…
And here are the winners!
“This is the best day EVER!” Harrison
“I wish we could do this every day.” Grace
“I might start designing things now, I have lots of ideas.”
Homework and Spellings…
Hi Year 2!
I’m going to start posting your spellings and homework on the blog just in case it gets lost on the way home.
This weeks spellings are:

We will now send spellings home on a Monday, and test the following Monday. Please ensure you bring your spelling book in on Mondays. (If you have lost your spelling books please let me know)
Reading
Everyone should be taking a banded library book home each week. We have access to the library on Tuesday and Friday and each child is allowed two books out at one time. On Friday everyone had the opportunity to get a new book.
These books must be read at home as much as possible. Reading out loud and developing fluency will help them massively with all their learning. I have sent home some questions to ask your child while reading.
Maths
This week I have sent home a maths task on arrays. This is to help understand multiplication.
Please also have a go on times table rockstars and attempt the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. If you have lost your password please email me.
Thank you!
The Land That Time Forgot..
Year 2 have started a brand new history topic. Take a look at our topic front cover!
To get started Year 2 went hunting for fossils at forest school!
They then examined them in the classroom and discussed why they are so important and what they can tell us about the past.
We then examined some historical evidence. We looked at documents, pictures, posters and artefacts tand wrote down what they tell us about the past. We decided which ones were the most useful to us.
Building a hideout.
Year 2 have had a go at making a hideout for the worry monster!
After learning Robin Hood had a hideout in Sherwood Forest the children really enjoyed talking about building dens and having secret hideouts. It was such a lovely day we decided we would take our learning outdoors and make our own mini hideouts for our worry monster.
Year 2 demonstrated a lot of critical thinking, problem solving, team work and creativity! Super job, everyone.
Animals
We have been working in groups to find out about animals and their offspring.
Each group had information on a certain group of animals (mammals, birds, fish, amphibians and reptiles) and their offspring. We had a reader, a writer and multiple artists in each group. The goal was to read about each group of animals, write down key facts and draw pictures to match. By the end of the lesson we could explain that different animals have different types of offspring.
For example: We know that some animals give birth to live young, whereas others lay eggs that hatch into offspring.
Each group then fed back to the whole class. We used the information to make a whole class poster with information on each animal group!
STEM challenge
This week the STEM challenge was to use resources to create a building, person or vehicle. Some of us worked with partners and paid special attention to details (like adding windows) and others chose to work independently.
Following instructions…
Year 2 have started learning about instructions. Our first step was to follow a simple set of instructions… Here we are making a jam sandwich with a partner!
After identifying the key features of instructions we had a go at using them in our writing. This sequence of learning will build up to us writing our own instructions.
After that we had a go at more complicated instructions… a recipe for fairy cakes.
We had to work together, reading each step carefully and making she we had the right measurements of each ingredient.
We really enjoyed this – our favourite part was eating them!
